Sports Injuries in Young Athletes

Children and teens involved in sports can experience sprains, strains, or overuse injuries as their bones and muscles are still growing. Physiotherapy helps them recover safely and return to play without risking further injury.

Common Symptoms

Do's

  • Rest and ice the injured area soon after it happens
  • Follow a gradual, guided return-to-play plan
  • Warm up and stretch properly before every practice or match
  • Use correct footwear and protective gear suited to the sport

Don'ts

  • Don't let your child play through pain or swelling
  • Don't rush back to full activity before therapy is complete
  • Don't ignore repeated injuries to the same area
  • Don't skip strength and conditioning advised between seasons

When to see a physiotherapist: See a doctor if there's significant swelling, inability to bear weight, deformity, or if pain doesn't improve within a few days of rest.
