A brachial plexus birth injury happens when the nerves controlling the arm are stretched during a difficult delivery, leading to weakness or limited movement in the arm. Physiotherapy started early gives the best chance of regaining strength and function.
When to see a physiotherapist: Consult a doctor or physiotherapist as soon as reduced arm movement is noticed after birth, since early treatment greatly improves recovery.
