Rotator Cuff Injury

Rotator cuff injuries involve strain or tears in the shoulder muscles and tendons that stabilise the joint, often from overuse or injury; physiotherapy helps restore strength and shoulder function.

Common Symptoms

Do's

  • Rest the shoulder from aggravating overhead activities
  • Apply ice after activity to ease inflammation
  • Gradually reintroduce movement as pain allows
  • Follow a guided strengthening plan once pain settles

Don'ts

  • Don't continue overhead lifting or throwing through pain
  • Avoid sleeping on the affected shoulder
  • Don't skip warm-up before physical activity
  • Avoid sudden heavy loading of the shoulder

When to see a physiotherapist: Consult a physiotherapist if shoulder weakness or pain persists beyond a week or limits daily tasks.
