Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Thoracic outlet syndrome happens when nerves or blood vessels between the collarbone and first rib become compressed, causing pain, tingling, or weakness in the arm. Physiotherapy helps release tightness and restore normal nerve and blood flow to the arm.

Common Symptoms

Do's

  • Practice posture correction exercises regularly
  • Stretch the neck and chest muscles gently
  • Take breaks from repetitive overhead tasks
  • Follow a physiotherapist-guided strengthening plan

Don'ts

  • Don't carry heavy bags on the affected shoulder
  • Don't slouch for long periods at a desk
  • Don't ignore persistent numbness or tingling
  • Don't perform overhead lifting without guidance

When to see a physiotherapist: Seek medical advice if the arm becomes pale, cold, or severely weak, and consult a physiotherapist early for nerve and posture-related symptoms.
