Physiotherapy for Driving-Related Pain

Long hours of driving in a fixed position can strain the neck, shoulders, and lower back, especially with poor seat posture. Physiotherapy helps correct driving posture and relieve the resulting stiffness and pain.

Common Symptoms

Do's

  • Adjust your seat so your knees are slightly bent and back is supported
  • Keep your hands relaxed on the steering wheel
  • Take breaks to stretch and walk during long drives
  • Use a lumbar cushion for additional lower back support

Don'ts

  • Don't sit too close or too far from the steering wheel
  • Don't drive for hours without a break
  • Don't ignore numbness or tingling during long drives
  • Don't slouch or lean to one side while driving

When to see a physiotherapist: If driving-related pain persists, radiates to the legs, or is accompanied by numbness, consult a physiotherapist for a posture assessment and relief plan.
